The New Silk Road

The Silk Road is a historically important international trade route between China and the Mediterranean. it was named the ‘Silk Road’  in 1877 because China silk comprised a large proportion of the trade along this ancient road.

In September 2013, during a visit to Kazakhstan, Chinese President Xi Jinping introduced a plan for creating a New Silk Road from China to Europe. This is the major cultural and economic initiative in order to expand China’s global reach. The latest iterations of this plan, dubbed “One Belt, One Road” (OBOR), includes a land-based Silk Road Economic Belt and Maritime Silk Road, with primary points in Ürümqi, Dostyk, Astana, Gomel, Brest, and the Polish cities of Małaszewicze and Łódź, which would be hubs of logistics and transshipment to other countries of Europe.]The Chinese Government commissioned RPM Media to produce a comprehensive story highlighting this “One Belt, One Road” project.

The crew travelled from Bejing to Xian where the old Silk Road started all the way to Shanxi Province at the edge of the Gobi desert, the heart and crossroad of the ancient Silk Road.
